“That’s because you didn’t ask what I wanted,” she told him.
Tyler apologized again, but Emma made her decision.
“I don’t want to be with someone who’s embarrassed by me,” she said, ending their relationship.
After he left, she cried in Daniel’s arms. She still liked Tyler and couldn’t understand why doing the right thing hurt so much.
“Because making the right decision doesn’t always make it easy,” Daniel told her.
Over the next two weeks, Emma missed Tyler and sometimes wondered whether she’d been too hard on him. Daniel reminded her that caring about someone didn’t mean staying in a relationship that made her feel small.
Then one day, Emma came home with news. A boy on Tyler’s team had mocked her arms again, but this time Tyler stood up for her. He admitted he’d been wrong to join in and told the boy to stop.
