A PTA Mom Took Over My Daughter’s Halloween Bake-Sale Table—

Before bed, she showed me a tall white chef’s hat.

“Can I wear this tomorrow?”

“Of course. I’ll keep it in my purse so it doesn’t get squashed.”

The next morning, we arrived early and arranged everything on Lily’s table.

Everything looked absolutely beautiful.

Twenty minutes before the fair opened, I went to get us some drinks. I was gone for barely five minutes.

When I returned, I nearly dropped both drinks.

Madison, one of Lily’s classmates, was sitting at our table, while Lily stood a few steps behind her, her eyes filling with tears.

Meanwhile, Madison’s mother, Karen, was rearranging Lily’s carefully displayed cupcakes.

I hurried over.

“What’s going on here, Karen?”

Karen smiled as though she’d been expecting me.

“Oh, since I’m the chair of the parent committee and one of the organizers of this fair, I made a few small changes. My daughter will be running this table now.”
