I burst into tears.
“Daniel, what are you doing? Our wedding is in three days!”
His eyes filled with tears, too.
“I know. But I couldn’t think of another way.”
“What do you want from me?”
He remained silent for a moment.
Then he said the words that made my heart nearly stop.
“Your mother paid me $50,000 to bring you here today.”
I froze.
“WHAT?!”
“She said that if you knew where we were going, you would never agree to come.”
I started screaming.
“My own mother paid you? What are the two of you planning?”
Daniel didn’t answer.
The car started moving again.
Twenty minutes later, we stopped in front of an old hospital that looked as though it had been closed for years.
An elderly man stood near the entrance, holding a thick folder.
He approached the car, looked at me, and whispered:
“My God… she has the same eyes.”
