“The Woman in My Paid Seat Said ‘I’m Not Moving’ — Then My 10-Year-Old Unzipped Her Backpack and the Entire Plane Went Silent”

“Ma’am, we paid extra for these two seats together. My daughter is ten. She needs to sit next to me.”

She pulled one earbud out with a sigh, like I was interrupting something important.

“I’m already settled. Mothers with babies always expect everyone else to rearrange their lives. You chose to travel with two children. That isn’t my problem.”

“I’ve asked her twice, but she won’t move.”

Heat rushed to my face. Behind me, someone muttered about the delay.

A flight attendant slipped through and glanced at the passes in my hand. Her frown deepened as she checked her tablet.

“There’s been a double assignment on the window seat,” she whispered. “I’ve asked her twice, but she won’t move, and I can’t remove her before departure. The flight’s full. The only seat left is three rows back. Your daughter can stay here while you take Noah to row 15, or we’ll sort it out after takeoff. We have to close the doors.”
