The woman behind leaned into the aisle.
“I saw it too. You definitely put something in your pocket.”
Lily quietly took the ring.
Every head turned toward row 12.
The woman in row 12 stammered, her hand hovering near her coat.
“This is ridiculous. I don’t have to.”
“Ma’am,” the flight attendant repeated. “Please.”
Slowly, she reached into her pocket. Her fingers came out holding my gold wedding ring.
“We’ll be filing a report upon landing.”
A soft gasp rippled through the cabin. I walked forward, and Lily quietly took the ring from the woman’s trembling hand and placed it in mine.
“It must have fallen in there,” the woman muttered. “I didn’t even notice.”
“Please gather your things,” the flight attendant said. “You’ll be sitting in the rear for the remainder of the flight. We’ll be filing a report upon landing.”
Someone in row 14 began to clap. Then another passenger joined in, and another, until the whole cabin was applauding my daughter.
