The Woman He Loved Walked Away After Seeing Him in a Wheelchair — But the Next Day, She Returned with Words That Left Him Speechless

She laughed through her tears.

“Why did you run from the café?” I asked.

“I’d been thinking about that young man in the hospital bed for years. Then suddenly, you were sitting right in front of me. I panicked. I thought I’d ruined your life.”

“And I thought you ran because of my wheelchair.”

“Matt, I fell for you while you were lying in that hospital bed,” she whispered. “And then I fell for you all over again without knowing you were the same man.”

Something clicked in my mind.

“Can I ask you something?”

“Anything.”

“When I first woke up after the accident, was Rachel there?”

“No. Not yet.”

“Then who was holding my hand?”

Hannah looked at me.

“I was.”

“You were crying.”

“A little. You kept begging me not to leave, and I promised I wouldn’t.”

For three years, I’d believed it was Rachel holding my hand.
