The Millionaire and His Ex-Wife’s Secret

Everett looked at the document once more. His own name, typed clean and official. Under a request he never made.

"Then let's find out exactly how far this goes," he said. "Before she finds out we know."

Silas nodded. "There's one more thing," he said. "Naomi's address. I found it this afternoon."

Everett stood up so fast his chair nearly tipped over.

"Take me there," he said. "Now."

Silas drove. Everett stared out the window the whole way, saying nothing. They passed the fairgrounds on the way. Empty this time of year, the folding tables long packed up. Everett asked Silas to slow down, just for a moment. He looked at the spot where her pie table used to stand, seven years earlier. He didn't explain why. Silas didn't ask. He just kept driving once Everett nodded, ready to move on.

Naomi lived in a small rented house on the edge of Briar Hollow. Past the old grain silo. The porch light was out. A single stroller sat folded against the railing.
