That flight to Chicago changed the course of my life – Habemus Asado

Y entonces recordé a Laila.

A visit six months earlier

Six months ago, a crying woman had come to my door of my house, with makeup running under her eyes. He asked about Tyler. I told him I was working. He introduced himself as Laila and, when I insisted on knowing what he was looking for, he turned around and left. That night I asked Tyler and he stood still for a second, that second revealer that people do when they hear a name they didn’t expect. Then she recomposed and explained that she was a co-worker with work behavior problems, that he was helping her with a complicated case. Something inside me set off an alarm, but Tyler had never given me reason to doubt. No suspicious messages, no unexplained absences, no rare charges on the card. I ended up convincing myself that I was being paranoid.
