It all started on an ordinary Tuesday.

I was preparing lunch in the kitchen when I suddenly heard Lily crying in the living room.

I rushed in.

Jake was kneeling in front of his little sister, holding her tightly with both arms and whispering something into her ear.

Lily was trying to pull away.

“Jake, what’s going on?” I asked.

My grandson immediately let go of his sister.

“Nothing, Grandma. We were just playing.”

But Lily looked at me with tears in her eyes and said something that made my stomach tighten.

“Grandma, I don’t want to go into that room again.”

Jake’s expression changed instantly.

“Lily, be quiet! We had a deal!”

I froze.

“What room, Jake?”

“No room, Grandma. She’s just little. She doesn’t know what she’s talking about.”

That evening, I decided to watch them more carefully.

And what I noticed over the following days frightened me even more.
