Thomas whispered:
"Silas."
"No."
Elisas look at his father.
"What happened?"
Thomas's silence gave him the answer before the words did.
Silas spoke softly.
“You were six years old.”
Mara watched Elias' face empty.
“You knocked down a lamp with oil.”
Elias closed her eyes.
A memory is back.
We're Smoke.
His mother screaming.
Thomas was carrying him in the snow.
Flames.
He had buried her.
Silas has whispered:
“You killed her.”
Elisys' shoulders have left.
For the first time, Mara saw him surrender.
- Not for Silas.
For guilt.
Silas loaded the revolver.
Thomas cried out:
“No!”
Silas fired.
Mara screamed.
But Elias moved.
The bullet tore his shoulder.
Thomas jumped to his feet.
David fired.
Abram Weller collapsed.
Samuel knocked Silas from behind.
The revolver disappeared in the snow.
- Elias is back.
Silas stretched out his hand after a knife.
Mara took the revolver.
“Stop.”
Silas looked at her.
