It was addressed to Malcolm.
The first paragraph was ordinary.
It concerned a proposed expansion.
But halfway through, Henry's tone changed.
*Malcolm, I have become concerned about the way you have presented company matters to Trevor.*
My heartbeat quickened.
I continued reading.
*Our son must learn the difference between inheritance and entitlement.*
*Gloria has built this company alongside me. She is not holding anyone's property hostage.*
Tears filled my eyes.
Henry had seen the problem years before I did.
Then I reached the final paragraph.
*I also need an explanation for the transfers involving the Whitmore Family Trust.*
My hands went cold.
Transfers?
I turned the page.
There was a handwritten note.
*If Malcolm refuses to explain, I will request an independent audit.*
I sat completely still.
Henry had suspected Malcolm before he died.
And he'd never told me.
Or perhaps he had tried.
Perhaps there had been so much happening during his final illness that I hadn't understood.
