Nigel's handwriting.
I looked up.
"Dad?"
He smiled sadly.
"Your husband and I have been working on a particular question for years."
"What question?"
He hesitated.
Then said:
**"Whether the treatment that restored your sight might someday help other patients harmed by the Lumen Project."**
My heart stopped.
"You mean June?"
Dad nodded.
"And perhaps others, depending on their individual injuries."
I stared at the notebook.
"Does Nigel know?"
"Yes."
I felt a strange ache.
More information the two men had shared before telling me.
But this time, Dad continued.
"We aren't planning to proceed without patients' knowledge or consent. We've asked an independent research team to review the work."
I looked at him.
He smiled gently.
"And if you want to be involved in deciding how your medical information is used, that decision is yours."
For the first time, I felt something inside me settle.
No more secret experiments.
