Part 2: I discovered my husband was having an affair with my best friend while we were all on the same airplane—and neither of them knew I was there. Instead of confronting them, I sent a small, beautifully wrapped gift to their seats.

Emails.

Texts.

Business projections.

One document stood out.

An email from Ryan dated two months before Lena died:

I will tell Claire before anything changes.

She deserves the truth.

Lena replied:

Then tell her today.

Ryan:

After Ethan's exams.

Lena:

No.

That's how people build permanent lies out of temporary timing.

I stared.

Ryan had been warned.

Again.

Then another email.

If something happens to me, do not turn Megan into Oliver's substitute mother just because she is my sister.

Let her choose.

Let Dawson choose.

Let Claire choose how much of this she can bear.

Stop arranging other people's choices.

I cried.

Not because Lena was saintly.

She wasn't.

Because the dead woman my husband had once betrayed me with had eventually understood him more clearly than he understood himself.

After the video, Ethan sat silently.

Then said:

“I don't hate her.”

I looked at him.

“I thought I would.”
