Part 2: I discovered my husband was having an affair with my best friend while we were all on the same airplane—and neither of them knew I was there. Instead of confronting them, I sent a small, beautifully wrapped gift to their seats.

“Apparently you meant us.”

Then he left.

I let him.

Sophie sat curled against me.

Max looked confused.

“Are we still a family?”

There are questions adults should not answer carelessly.

“Yes.”

I said.

“But it is going to look different.”

Then came Oliver.

Ryan's face changed.

“There is something else.”

Ethan had returned to the doorway.

Maybe he heard the tone.

Ryan continued.

“Several years ago, before Lena died…”

Sophie frowned.

“Megan's sister?”

“Yes.”

“I made another serious mistake.”

I hated that phrase.

But Ryan corrected himself.

“I slept with her.”

Ethan stared.

“While married to Mom?”

“Yes.”

“And?”

“She had a son.”

Ryan's voice broke.

“His name is Oliver.”

“He's four.”

“He is my biological son.”

Max's eyes widened.

“We have a brother?”

“Yes.”

That was the moment.

Not adultery.

Not divorce.

A child.

Max looked almost excited before realizing the room's mood didn't allow it.

“Can we meet him?”
