Part 2: I discovered my husband was having an affair with my best friend while we were all on the same airplane—and neither of them knew I was there. Instead of confronting them, I sent a small, beautifully wrapped gift to their seats.

He'd used my name to obtain a mortgage.

And if he could forge that application, I had no idea what else he'd signed.

Priya arranged for me to speak with the bank's fraud department and begin reviewing our accounts.

Then she asked something that made my stomach tighten.

"Where are your children?"

I swallowed.

"At home with my sister, Laurel."

My daughter Lucy was eleven.

My son Sam was eight.

Ryan had told them he was traveling to Chicago for a business conference.

I had flown out because Mom was in the hospital.

Neither child knew their father had been on the same flight as Megan.

Or that their parents' marriage might be ending.

Priya lowered her voice.

"Make sure they remain with a trusted adult while you sort this out. Ryan is still their father, and any custody concerns will need proper legal attention, but you shouldn't leave their arrangements uncertain."
