Part 2: Before my husband passed away, he asked me to deliver a sealed letter to a woman I'd never met — after she read the first line, she looked at me and asked, "Did he tell you everything?"

**EXCHANGE APPROVED.**

My stomach turned.

The signature at the bottom belonged to Dr. Adrian Voss.

But there was another signature.

One I recognized immediately.

Zane.

He hadn't merely accepted a baby after being told ours was dying.

He had signed a document approving an exchange.

I stared at Detective Collins.

"Did he know our daughter was alive?"

She hesitated.

"We're still establishing what he was told and what he understood."

I looked down at the paper.

Then noticed a note beside Baby A.

**TRANSFER TO CATHERINE HALE — PENDING.**

My heart stopped.

Julia.

My daughter had apparently been placed with Catherine deliberately.

Someone had sent Rebecca's baby to me.

And my baby to Rebecca's mother.

It wasn't a simple hospital mistake.

It was a planned exchange.

The DNA results arrived three days later.

Julia asked to open them with Catherine, Emily, and me present.

We sat around Catherine's kitchen table.

The same table where I'd first learned my daughter might not be the baby I'd delivered.
