My nana taught me this hack to make dusty blinds sparkle in 2 mins with 0 work. Here’s how it works

For vinyl or aluminum blinds with greasy buildup, you may add a small splash of white vinegar. Do not use vinegar on real wood, natural stone window surrounds, or surfaces whose manufacturer advises against acidic cleaners.

Never mix vinegar with bleach or any product containing chlorine.

### Step 3: Put the sock over your hand

Place a clean sock over your hand like a glove. Dip the fingertips lightly into the cleaning solution, then squeeze out as much water as possible.

The sock should be damp, not dripping wet.

Step 4: Wipe both sides at once

Hold one slat gently between your thumb and fingers. Slide your hand from one end of the slat to the other.

This motion cleans the top and bottom simultaneously. Continue working from the highest slat downward so falling dust does not land on areas you have already cleaned.

Rinse the sock whenever it becomes visibly dirty. Replace the water if it turns cloudy.

### Step 5: Dry the blinds

Wipe the slats with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Drying prevents water spots and protects materials that can be damaged by prolonged moisture.

Leave the blinds open until they are completely dry.

## Cleaning Different Types of Blinds

### Vinyl and aluminum blinds

These materials usually tolerate a lightly damp cloth well. Mild dish soap is often enough to remove everyday dust and fingerprints.

Avoid abrasive sponges, which may scratch the surface or damage the finish.

### Faux-wood blinds

Use minimal moisture and dry each slat promptly. Although faux wood is generally more moisture-resistant than natural wood, water can still enter seams and damage internal materials.

### Real-wood blinds

Dust real-wood blinds with a dry microfiber cloth or vacuum brush. If additional cleaning is necessary, use a barely damp cloth and dry the slats immediately.

Avoid vinegar, soaking, steam cleaning, and excessive water.

### Fabric blinds

Do not use the wet-sock method unless the care label specifically permits it. Vacuum fabric blinds gently with an upholstery attachment.

Stains may require professional cleaning or a product approved by the manufacturer.

## What About Very Greasy Blinds?

Blinds near a stove can develop a sticky layer of grease that traps dust. A dry cloth may spread this residue instead of removing it.

For washable vinyl or metal blinds:

1. Remove loose dust first.
2. Use warm water with a small amount of dishwashing liquid.
3. Clean a small section at a time.
4. Repeat the process where necessary.
5. Wipe away soap residue with a separate damp cloth.
6. Dry the blinds thoroughly.
