My Husband’s Secretary Said His “Wife and Son” Were Upstairs—But the Truth Was More Complicated Than Betrayal

Her jaw tightened.

“That’s private.”

“My husband’s wife is private?”

A few heads turned more openly.

Bianca lowered her voice. “You are embarrassing yourself.”

“No,” I said. “I’m asking a simple question.”

She looked toward the security desk. For one second, I believed she might actually call someone over.

Then a man in a charcoal tuxedo hurried across the lobby.

“Ms. Carter?”

I recognized Daniel Cho, Adrian’s chief financial officer. He was usually composed, almost painfully so, but tonight his glasses sat slightly crooked and his phone was clenched in his hand.

“Daniel,” I said.

His gaze flicked toward Mila, then to Bianca.

“What’s going on?”

Bianca answered before I could.

“There’s been a misunderstanding. Elena arrived without an invitation, and I was trying to prevent a scene.”

Daniel’s expression changed.

“Without an invitation?”

“Yes.”

He looked at me again. “You’re Adrian’s wife.”
