My Husband’s Brothers Called Me ‘The Second Wife’ for 20 Years – I Was His Only Wife, so I Finally Asked About the First

Mark arrived carrying dessert.

He handed it to me.

“For the—”

He stopped.

Every person at the table froze.

Mark’s face went pale.

Then he slowly said:

“For my favorite sister-in-law.”

I stared at him.

“You only have one sister-in-law here.”

“Exactly why you’re winning.”

Daniel laughed.

So did I.

This time, there was no secret underneath it.

That night, after everyone left, Daniel and I sat on the porch.

He reached for my hand.

I let him take it.

That didn’t mean everything was fixed.

Trust doesn’t repair itself because someone finally tells the truth.

It rebuilds through what happens afterward.

Through questions answered.

Through uncomfortable conversations that aren’t avoided.

Through allowing the injured person to be angry without demanding forgiveness on a schedule.

Daniel and I were still working on that.

Maybe we always would be.

But one thing had changed permanently.

There would be no more locked rooms in our marriage.
