“Jake, if you don’t shut your mouth right now, I won’t pay for your school or any of your other expenses anymore!”
I stood there, stunned.
For two years, he had barely contributed to the children’s expenses, and now he was trying to silence them with money.
“You will NEVER speak to my son like that again,” I said, slamming the door in their faces.
Jake burst into tears.
“Mom, Dad called me yesterday. He thought I’d hung up after talking to Jessica, but the call was still connected.”
My son explained that he had overheard their conversation with the wedding planner.
Jessica had suggested displaying our old family photographs on a giant screen.
Especially the picture of me wearing the orange dress.
They wanted me standing in front of hundreds of guests wearing that exact same outfit.
Then Mike was supposed to give a speech about how, after escaping an unhappy marriage, he had finally found the woman of his dreams.
