I froze.
I found a small opening in the reinforced backing.
My fingers slipped inside and found a folded letter.
Across the outside, in Ashley’s handwriting, were the words
“Dad, open this before you walk me down the aisle.”
I froze.
My hands shook as I unfolded it.
Then, I saw something small glued beneath the first line.
I stared at it.
My knees nearly gave out.
It was a photo of Ashley and an unfamiliar little girl.
The girl had brown hair, a missing front tooth, and a purple butterfly clipped above her ear.
I stared at it.
I unfolded the letter further, but before I could read it, someone touched my shoulder.
It was Antonio.
He looked at the photo and froze.
“She put it in there,” he whispered.
“You know about this?”
He nodded.
“She put it in there.”
“Who is this little girl?”
Antonio looked toward Ashley’s coffin.
