My best friend and I mistakenly switched suitcases after our flight — I thought it was just an innocent mistake we'd laugh

And when she packed that case on the Monday before we went, she put the letters in the bottom and she put my red jumper on top of them, folded, to give back to me.

Not to hide anything. There was nothing to hide; it was her case and she was going to open it herself.

She packed a thing she had been meaning to return for six years, on the same day she packed a thing she had been meaning to return for two.

And I opened that case in my bedroom and saw the jumper and laughed and got my phone out to take a picture.

That is the photograph I still have. Eleven o'clock at night, a red jumper on top of a suitcase, and I am laughing.

Underneath it, four inches down, is the eleventh letter.
