She had decided to give them to me on the trip.
She told me that on the Tuesday after we got back, in my kitchen, in about eleven minutes, and it is the only time in fifteen years I have seen that woman properly cry.
She packed them on the Monday before we went. She had worked out that five days somewhere with nobody else around was the best chance she was going to get.
And then she did not do it.
Day one she decided it would spoil the whole trip. Day three she got as far as taking them out in her room. Day four she put them back because I had been talking about Tilly's school thing and she did not want to put it on top of that.
And on day five we flew home and picked up the wrong cases at a belt at Brackenmere at about eleven at night because we were tired.
