He studied the floor.
“It sounded better before he came.”
Despite myself, I laughed.
“Go wash your hands now.”
“It sounded better before he came.”
At dinner, I spooned spaghetti onto two plates.
Without thinking, I gave Tyler the larger portion.
He immediately pushed it toward me.
“You take this one.”
I looked at the two plates.
I’d done it without even thinking.
“No.”
Without thinking, I gave Tyler the larger portion.
Tyler frowned. “But you’re hungry.”
“I am.”
“So take it.”
I picked up the serving spoon instead and moved some spaghetti from his plate onto mine.
“How about nobody automatically gets the smaller one?” I suggested.
Tyler considered this.
“Okay.”
We ate.
“But you’re hungry.”
Halfway through dinner, he watched me take a second piece of garlic bread.
He smiled.
“Don’t make it weird,” I said.
“I’m not.”
“You are absolutely making it weird.”
