Bryan explained that Dolly herself had asked him years earlier to prepare the announcement, long before he had fully understood what it would one day mean to deliver it.
As Dolly’s head of security for more than two decades, following in the footsteps of his father, Larry, Bryan said he had imagined the heaviness of the moment but had never truly felt it until it arrived.Country Music
He described carrying both enormous pride and deep sadness, while making clear that the sadness belonged to those Dolly had left behind.
According to Bryan, Dolly had lived her life in faith and was now reunited with her late husband, Carl Dean, her parents and others she had loved and lost.
He also reflected on the extraordinary influence she had within her own family.
Dolly, he said, had opened doors for relatives who might never otherwise have imagined the possibilities available to them.
But her influence went much further than that.
Through her example, Bryan said, Dolly helped generations of singers, songwriters, musicians and dreamers from around the world believe that seemingly impossible things could become real.
One especially touching detail concerned Dolly’s wishes for her final rest.
Bryan recalled Dolly telling him that she wanted to rest in a soft bed of plush cotton because, after spending a lifetime wearing heavy rhinestones, she finally deserved to be comfortable.
He ended the announcement by saying goodbye to the woman his family knew not only as Dolly Parton the superstar, but also as Aunt Dolly, Granny and Gigi.
