In an interview in 2024, Lionel spoke affectionately about his granddaughter Eloise. He joked that he could put her in his pocket and take her everywhere. His comments showed how much pleasure he finds in the simple moments of being around a young child.
Now that Henry has arrived, Lionel has another little person to spoil with affection.
He has also joked that Sofia and Elliot sometimes want to get him away from the baby. It was a light-hearted comment that many grandparents will understand. When a new baby arrives, grandparents can be just as excited as the parents themselves.
Four Grandchildren and a Growing Family
Henry’s arrival means Lionel is now a grandfather to four children.
His eldest daughter, Nicole Richie, shares two children with her husband, musician Joel Madden: Kate and Sparrow. Sofia and Elliot are parents to Eloise and Henry.
Each grandchild represents a different chapter in Lionel’s family life. From watching his older grandchildren grow into teenagers to welcoming a newborn grandson, he has experienced many of the joys that come with being part of a growing family.
