And then there were eight months of an investigation, from the March to the October of 2024, during which my husband was interviewed four times, gave a written statement, and attended a hearing in the September that lasted two days.
Two days. He told me it was a conference in Welford.
And I did not notice eight months of a man going through that, because he was already a man who came home at nine and did not talk about work, and because the whole of our arrangement for eleven years had been that he carried that part on his own and I did not ask.
That is what I actually built. Not a marriage where he lied to me for eleven months.
A marriage where a man could be investigated for eight months over a death and his wife would not register a change, because there was no change to register — he was already behaving like a man with something he was not saying.
