I caught my dad on my security camera planning to move my brother into my house while I was on a trip, and when my mom said, “Once everything is here, she will not make a scene. She will just accept it,” I set a trap for them.

I paused.

“Before I continue, I need to clarify something. Mom just mentioned that Kyle moved into a beautiful new home. She’s absolutely right. It is beautiful. I know because I’m the one who bought it.”

The silence was immediate.

Total.

“It’s my house,” I said. “And no one asked me if Kyle could live there.”

My mother’s smile froze.

“Myra,” she said, her voice strained. “What are you—”

“I’m clarifying, Mom. That’s all.”

I kept my tone steady, the same one I used in boardroom presentations.

“I think everyone here deserves the full story.”

I pulled the USB drive from my clutch and walked to the podium where the laptop was already connected.

The projector hummed to life.

“This is the deed to my house in Aurora, Colorado.”

Slide one appeared on the screen.

A crisp image of the title document. My name highlighted. Purchased October 2021. Down payment from my personal savings. Mortgage in my name.
