Home Entertainment Game Technology Advertisement Part 2: For eight years, my parents made me leave the house every time my brother brought his fiance over; Mom said, “She comes from a good family, don’t embarrass us”; Dad added, “Just disappear for the weekend”; I did; then one weekend, I never came back; it took them four years to find out where I went.

I closed my eyes.

"Did she succeed?"

"Partially."

My heart tightened.

"How?"

"She obtained copies of the original trust documents and challenged some of the transfers."

I looked toward the greenhouse.

The nursery she'd helped me purchase.

The little business I'd built with her encouragement.

"Did Grandma use her own money to help me?"

Nora paused.

Then said, "She used money she managed to recover from one of the disputed accounts."

Tears filled my eyes.

Ruth hadn't simply rescued me from my parents' home.

She'd been trying to return something that should have belonged to me all along.

I pressed a hand against my mouth.

"She never told me."

Nora's voice softened.

"She wanted you to believe you were capable of building something yourself."

I began crying.

"She always told me I was."

Three days later, Detective Grant called again.

His voice sounded unusually serious.

"Stacey, we recovered a hospital recording."
