I swallowed.
“And the house?”
“The recorded deed identifies you as a joint owner with survivorship rights. Lucas’s death didn’t give your father any claim to it.”
I closed my eyes.
For three weeks, Charles had told me I was helpless.
He had told me Lucas left nothing.
He had told me my only option was to let him handle everything.
But Lucas had left me something far more valuable than money.
Protection.
And the means to fight back.
Chapter 3: The Signature That Wasn’t Mine
Samantha waited until the nurse finished checking my monitors.
Then she showed me three pages.
The first was a document supposedly authorizing Charles Baldwin to act on my behalf.
The second was a proposed sale of my home.
The third was a request to transfer more than two million dollars from an investment account.
Every page carried my signature.
Except I had never signed any of them.
