Daniel tried a different strategy the next day.
He called Emily from an unfamiliar number and said the hospital was making the situation look worse than it was.
He said I was emotional because of the pregnancy loss.
He said he had only been trying to help.
Emily did not argue with him.
She asked one question.
“Why did you tell the doctor a son was important?”
Daniel was silent for several seconds, then said, “Because Rachel knew what was expected.”
Emily ended the call.
She did not record it or turn it into a second piece of evidence.
She told me only because I asked what he had said.
By then, I understood that Daniel’s words were not needed to prove the injuries.
They proved something else.
He still believed expectation was an excuse.
The hospital limited contact, and a responding officer later took the same account I had already given.
