Diane grabbed for it.
I raised my arm higher. She couldn’t reach, so her nails raked across the back of my hand.
“You grabbing at this box because you’re scared he’ll say more? Or because you don’t want people asking how you taught a kid to blow me up?”
“The kid’s confused!”
“Confused? You just had him tell the camera the truth. Which part’s true, which part’s confused?”
Diane’s chest was heaving.
She yanked Tyler back by the shoulder and dug her fingers in.
“Shut up!”
Tyler yelped.
I reached out to block her. Diane dragged him harder behind her.
“Don’t touch him!”
I grabbed her wrist. She shrieked.
“She’s hitting the kid! You see that? She’s hitting the kid!”
Mark locked an arm around my waist and hauled me off her.
My foot caught.
My knee slammed into the corner of the tipped-over patio table.
