At 64, I Married a Man Half My Age. Six Months Later, I Discovered He Was Secretly Adding Something to My Drink Every Night—and Making Sure I Drank Every Last Drop.

After Evelyn died, his father continued experimenting with other women he believed had similar characteristics.

All three experienced serious medical problems. Two died, while the third suffered lasting health complications.

“And you knew this before marrying me?” I asked.

Daniel lowered his eyes.

“Yes.”

Then came the most painful revelation.

He had first seen my photograph in a database connected to the research program. He knew my age, background, and interests before approaching me at a charity fundraiser.

The flowers, gifts, and thoughtful gestures suddenly felt different.

“Did you marry me because I reminded you of Evelyn?” I asked.

“Not only because of that,” he whispered.

His answer broke my heart.

Daniel claimed he had eventually fallen in love with me, but his father’s unfinished research had consumed him. When Dr. Cole suggested modern technology could improve the results, Daniel became convinced the program might help me.

However, my original medical tests hadn’t supported the condition used to justify my participation.
