Then I looked around my peaceful home.
Nobody was questioning my judgment or making decisions about my health without my permission.
I carried the cup to the window and took a sip. It tasted just as it had when my mother made it during my childhood.
Warm. Sweet. Comforting.
I drank a little more, then set the cup down.
Half remained.
And I smiled.
For the first time in a long while, I didn’t have to finish it. I could drink it, leave it, or pour it away.
The decision belonged entirely to me.
