That made me angry.
Not at my body.
At Ryan.
I closed the shopping site.
Then I called him.
“You’re taking Emma tomorrow evening.”
There was a pause.
“Why?”
“I need a break.”
“Can’t you rest when she naps?”
“That’s when I clean.”
“Then don’t clean.”
“Will you do it?”
Silence.
“Fine. I’ll take Emma.”
“Good.”
Thursday afternoon, Ryan announced he was planning to watch a game with Glen.
“No.”
He looked at me.
“What?”
“You’re taking Emma tonight.”
“Can’t we do it tomorrow?”
“No.”
“Kelsey, it’s one game.”
“And I asked for one evening.”
“I’m not refusing to help.”
“Then why are we still arguing?”
He stared at me.
Then picked up Emma.
I showed him where everything was.
Diapers.
Bottles.
Pajamas.
Pacifiers.
“I can manage,” he said.
“Good.”
Then I took the longest shower I had taken in four months.
