He hesitated.
“I’ll be home Saturday afternoon.”
“Good. I’ll leave the shopping list.”
That evening, he came home with my favorite cookies.
“Thought these might cheer you up.”
There had been a time when something that small would have made me smile all night.

He used to pull me toward him in the kitchen just because a song came on.
I looked at the cookies.

“Can you get her?” he asked.
