When I finally left the operating area, a young woman hurried toward me.
“I’m Gianna! I’m Sophie’s mother! Please tell me she’s okay!”
She remained in critical condition.
“Her condition is stable,” I explained carefully. “She survived surgery.”
The woman covered her mouth and started crying.
Then she grabbed my hands.
“You have no idea what you’ve done for me! That little girl is the most precious person in my life. Thank you!”
She hugged me before I could respond!
The woman covered her mouth.
I gently patted her shoulder.
“She’s a strong little girl.”
The woman stepped back.
“I’m Dr. Miller.”
Her expression suddenly changed.
“Dr. Miller?”
“Yes.”
She stared at me.
Her expression suddenly changed.
“What’s your first name?”
“Robert.”
She covered her mouth again.
I thought she was simply overwhelmed.
Before I could ask what was wrong, a nurse approached with an update about Sophie.
