Ava also revealed she had already told Marissa about the cheating before any of this happened. Marissa had told her to be careful about making accusations and suggested she might have misunderstood, urging her to simply finish the week.
A Hard Choice and Its Cost
Rachel confronted Marissa directly, and the conversation drew the attention of the program director, Ms. Alvarez. Unlike Marissa, Ms. Alvarez didn’t try to smooth things over before hearing what had happened. She brought Ava in, listened, and began interviewing the girls separately.
Once questioned apart from one another, the story fell apart quickly. That evening, Ms. Alvarez asked Ava if she was willing to give a full written statement. Ava hesitated—she knew what it would mean for her troop—but ultimately agreed.
Her troop was disqualified from the competition as a result. Kayla found her afterward, furious, telling Ava she had ruined everything and that their friendship was over. Ava didn’t chase her down.
