Elizabeth turned to Richard. “May I see your boarding pass, sir?”
Richard exhaled theatrically. “This is ridiculous.” “Your boarding pass, please.”
He pulled it from the inside pocket of his jacket. Elizabeth compared the two. Her expression remained professional.
“Mr. Bennett, you are assigned to 2B.”
Richard pointed at the aisle seat beside him. “We’re sitting together either way.” “Yes, sir.” “So what difference does it make?” “It matters because 2A is Miss Coleman’s assigned seat.”
Richard leaned back. “I paid full fare.”
Elizabeth looked down at Zara’s pass. “So did Miss Coleman.”
Something changed in Elizabeth’s expression. Not much. Just a pause.
COLEMAN.
Her gaze lingered on the surname. It meant something. Or almost meant something. She looked at Zara. Zara noticed. Richard did not.
“I need you to move to Seat 2B, sir,” Elizabeth said. “No.”
The answer came instantly. A quiet ripple moved through the passengers listening nearby.
