“Who is Miss Coleman?” he asked.
Elizabeth raised her hand slowly.
“She is right here.”
Zara stepped forward, still holding her phone, while every conversation in First Class seemed to disappear at once.
The man opened the folder and showed Elizabeth a document on the first page.
“Flight 212 is under an immediate operational hold,” he said. “No passenger is to be moved, removed, or boarded until this matter is resolved.”
Richard lowered his newspaper completely.
“What matter?” Richard demanded.
The operations officer looked at him without expression.
“That depends on why you are occupying Seat 2A.”
Richard’s face changed slightly, but he recovered quickly.
“There has been a seating error.”
“There has not,” Elizabeth said quietly.
She held up both boarding passes.
“Miss Coleman is assigned to 2A. Mr. Bennett is assigned to 2B.”
The officer nodded once.
“Then we have a different problem.”
Richard stood up.
“I don’t appreciate being treated like a criminal.”
