Surely, no reasonable adult would think it acceptable to place a bare, smelly foot on another passenger’s armrest during a commercial flight.
Unfortunately, the man appeared entirely comfortable with his decision.
He had settled into his seat as though he were relaxing on his own living-room sofa.
His leg extended into my personal space, his foot rested on the shared armrest, and his attitude suggested that everyone around him should simply accept the arrangement.
I turned slightly and looked back at him.
“Excuse me,” I said politely. “Would you mind moving your foot? It’s on my armrest.”
He glanced at me, looked briefly at his foot, and then returned his attention to his phone.
“No,” he replied casually. “I’m comfortable here.”
For a second, I wondered whether he was joking.
He was not.
I gave him another opportunity to reconsider.
“I understand that you want to get comfortable, but this is my armrest. Could you please move your foot?”
